According to a recent online survey conducted by RealSelf.com, consumer interest in cosmetic enhancement is up, with nearly 70% of Americans stating they would pursue plastic surgery, such as breast augmentation or rhinoplasty, if money were not an issue. As interest in plastic surgery grows, the School of Medicine at the University of California in San Diego is playing a role in enhancing the field as they recently hosted a plastic surgery symposium to welcome a number of regional plastic surgery experts. Dr. John Hilinski, participated in the event, and focused on his personal approach to facial plastic surgery.

Dr. John Hilinski, a board-certified plastic surgeon, is doing his part to educate this growing population of Americans interested in plastic surgery, specifically as it relates to his specialization in facial plastic surgery. The University of California in San Diego School of Medicine recently hosted a plastic surgery symposium that covered a broad spectrum of surgical cosmetic enhancement procedures, including a lecture from Dr. Hilinski’s perspective, which focused on rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplsty.
The audience was comprised of staff from the UCSD Division of Plastic Surgery, as well as some of the most respected plastic surgeons in San Diego and Los Angeles. Dr. Hilinski gave a lecture that focused on his expertise and personal approach to the nuances associated with managing the rhinoplasty and secondary rhinoplasty patient population. Dr. Hilinski says one area in which audience members expressed a particular interest in was his post-operative management of cosmetic nose surgery. He added that rehabilitation after a rhinoplasty procedure is a complicated process, and requires an extensive amount of experience to ensure each patient’s goals and expectations are met.
Dr. Hilinski says he enjoys participating in lectures and other plastic surgery events such as conferences and continuing education courses. He adds that he believes maintaining a public presence provides validity to his reputation as an expert in rhinoplasty in San Diego, and helps the general population better understand the reasoning behind pursuing cosmetic enhancement.

Dr. John Hilinski earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and completed his general surgery, and head and neck surgery residencies at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center. He also completed a facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the University of Illinois, Chicago Medical Center, as well as a National Institutes of Health Research Fellowship at the UCSD Cancer Center.
