One of the most common office-based procedures we perform involves facial mole removal. This is a fairly straight forward cosmetic surgery procedure that can wipe away memories of an unwanted facial blemish. For instance, this patient from San Diego, CA, presented to our office complaining of a large mole along the side of her cheek. There was no history of skin cancer – as in many patients, this was simply for cosmetic reasons. As you can see in her preoperative photograph, there is a large, raised, dark mole along the right cheek area. The mole measured approximately 6-7 mm in width. We discussed in detail with the patient how mole removal can be used as an option to improve the esthetic appearance of her face. She opted to have the scar excised, or removed, rather than shaved off. The resulting defect, or hole, was then meticulously closed with precise plastic surgery technique. The end result is noted below showing her before and after cosmetic mole removal photos. You can appreciate that there is very little evidence of where the incision was made. She has a fine scar in the area, but this is barely perceptible to the human eye. And this is in light of the fact her skin is natively quite dark, which is always more difficult to work with when trying to hide surgical incisions. Overall, this patient is quite pleased with her procedure and results. If you are considering cosmetic mole removal, contact our office today.
